When you subscribe, a small applet is downloaded directly to your Smartphone. This software activates your smart phones inbuilt GPS chip, which then provides the GPS tracking. The SOS Software also pre-programs 2 keys on your handset which act as a Green Alert (location based service) or Red Alert (help!) button which act as follows:

The Green Alert allows you to send your current location to a pre-defined list of email contacts (friends and family, co-workers etc) to tell them your current location, with the ability for you to add a small amount of personalised content.
We refer to this as a “Here I Am” message and can be used as many times as you like to show your followers where you are at any point, a true location based service. Contacts on your pre-defined list will get an email with a link to a google map which will show the time, date and co-ordinates of your location at the time of the activation.

The Red Alert or SOS sends an SMS message to the 24 x7 Help Desk, plus an email or an SMS to your pre-defined list of contacts. Once you are connected to the 24x7 Help Desk a specialist security advisor will advise, assist and co-ordinate an effective response to your particular situation.
For example, they will contact an appropriate external service such as local police, fire, ambulance, coastguard, embassies etc, as well as relaying information to your contacts (friends, family and employers).
All the time the security specialist knows exactly where you are from the emergency SOS requests sent from your mobile phone. They also have the ability to “track” your history to see where you last made contact etc. The security specialist can also perform a “Where Are You” request (which the user authorises) to locate your current position in emergency or to track you in ongoing situations.
In both Green or Red Alert mode, a hyperlink is sent in the email (or SMS sent at the cost of your providers tariff) that allows your authorised “contacts” to click on.
This link contains your current position, time, a brief message and displays the information using Google Maps or Windows Virtual Earth — in map view, satellite or aerial view.
