We used the GlobetrotterSOS Assist Service whilst on our expedition across China and Vietnam. What impressed us was that it was simple to use, pressing a single button sent our location and status, it worked in some of the most remote places I have ever been and meant we could let the folks at home know we were OK without having to call them.
We used it to mark the start and end of river runs so we can use this information to map the route once we got back to the UK. The Blackberry device also stood up to the test, even though it got pretty bashed about during the 6 weeks.
We did look at some other devices, but having to carry a separate device as well as a phone made no sense and the costs were much higher overall – also the cost to buy a device we would only use for one trip caused us issues on budget.
We did have a few moments where I thought I would need to activate the SOS button, but thankfully didn’t have to. It was very reassuring to know GlobetrotterSOS were there if I needed them.

I have used the online travel briefing service when travelling to the more unusual countries and the information is very accurate and up to the minute. I am also very impressed with the ongoing information or events happening around the globe, just in case I have to travel anywhere at short notice. Interestingly, I was also surprised to see information on the tube strike recently in London, which saved me a load of time as well.
I am recommending this service to our Board at the next Board Meeting as I believe this could solve the travel security issues for our staff as the service is simple to deploy and use and very cost effective – a small price to pay to ensure our staff are safe.

As a business woman always on the move, I am always on my guard when in strange places. The GlobetrotterSOS service suits my needs exactly. I am not great with gadgets so to have everything on my Nokia handset means that I can use it easily and it’s always with me. I find I am using it more and more just to let my husband know I am safe during the day until I can speak to him later in the evening, this means he is happy too.
I was very grateful recently for the GlobetrotterSOS service. I was in London quite late in the evening and managed to get caught up in a disturbance. When a group of students decided to visit uncharted areas of China and Vietnam to find new kayaking runs in wild areas, Globetrotter SOS offered assistance to them, providing a service to help them plan for all eventualities. The Kayaknam expedition used a Blackberry handset, combined with the Globetrotter SOS Assist service to offer “Here I am” location services to allow folks back at home to know where they are, and should they get into difficulties, have assistance available to them 24 x 7.
